Voter Service and Registration

We receive many requests from community groups to provide speakers on ballot issues, and we hope to reach out to new communities that previously have not taken advantage of our services.  We need people to staff tables at various city wide special events, talking to people about issues and distributing publications.

Contact Peggy Graybill at voterservice [at] lwvoakland.org or call the office at 510-834-7640.  Read more about Voter Service and Voter Registration!

Website Design and Content Work

The LWVO website needs constant information refresh, in addition to an eye toward modern use and design.  Bring your web talents to the League to make democracy work!  The League uses MyLO, or My League Online, the tool pioneered by LWVC now used by leagues across the country.   MyLO is a tool which uses both visual interface and code to create individualized yet interconnected websites for leagues.  Content can be tailored for Oakland, yet data--photos, actions, etc.--can be leveraged between leagues.  Get in touch with the Communications Committee at communications [at] lwvoakland.org to find out more and help!

Join Observer Corps:  Monitor Oakland Government!

Choose a committee or commission whose work interests you; observe meetings  (via zoom or the recording)  of the governmental committee or commission you have chosen (eg., Public Safety, Public Works, Budget Advisory); note what happens particularly regarding issues that the League is tracking;  and report back to the Action Committee using a simple, structured report form.  Work with a League mentor.  It’s a great opportunity to learn about Oakland’s government and how issues are being addressed.  Learn more about the Observer Corps here: https://my.lwv.org/california/oakland/take-action/observer-corps. "Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy.  You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in."  --Marjorie Moore
