Title: Candidate Forum for County Council District 4

Candidates for County Council District 4 Paulette Rappa and Douglas Hudson will field questions from the audience at a public forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Sussex County on Tuesday, October 9, 6:00 to 7:30 pm, at the Rehoboth Library.

Aside from brief opening and closing statements by the candidates, the entire program will center on written questions from the floor. The audience can pick up note cards and pencils for posing questions at the entry door or from monitors in the aisles throughout the program.

Hudson (Republican) and Rappa (Democrat) are vying for the seat presently held by George Cole, who is not seeking reelection. Sussex County Council is composed of five seats that represent single-member districts within the county, and each Council member is elected from their respective district to serve a four-year term. County Council District 4 runs from Henlopen Acres to Bethany Beach along the coast and west to the edge of Dagsboro.

The responsibilities of the County Council include establishing policies for the health, safety, and welfare of County residents, adopting an annual budget for county government operations, and enacting plans for county growth, development, and employment.

Both candidates have been asked to post background information and their answers to questions on key issues on, the League of Women Voters’ online voters’ guide. Questions posed to the candidates on the website focus on their priorities for the county as well as their views on protecting and improving water quality, working with DelDot on traffic issues, addressing sea level rise, and communicating with constituents.

Information on candidates for other state and Sussex County offices can also be found on the VOTE411 website.  The VOTE411 system covers all the 2018 state-wide and county-level races in the November 6 General elections.
