Ohio SB89 fix for EdChoice vouchers - Call your legislator today!

Time Range For Action Alert:
February 9, 2020 to March 31, 2020

What does SB 89 mean for Cuyahoga County?

SB 89, if approved by the Ohio Senate, will end EdChoice, the “performance -based” voucher program and the deduction method of funding NEW vouchers.

This means that in Cuyahoga Count, starting next year, the:

      • Seven newly defined EdChoice districts will not have to pay for vouchers.
      • Eleven existing EdChoice districts will not have to pay for any NEW vouchers. The number of vouchers won’t grow, but the districts will still be responsible for paying for existing vouchers.
      • Wherever you live, your community will benefit from new limitation on the use of local resources to pay for students who do not attend the public schools.

Approving SB 89 is the first step. It is far from a sure thing! Make those calls.

Use this tool to contact Ohio legislators.

The next step is to provide financial relief to districts that have to keep paying off existing EdChoice vouchers. There are some provisions that could kick in but not for three years.

Please don’t go away.
